In recent years, different forms of alternative medicine and healing are taking over conventional medical approaches on how to deal with certain mental health issues. In today's article, we are discussing CBD oil for anxiety and depression!

For most people worldwide, these past few weeks have been a time of great uncertainty. The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has completely changed our lives. Our work has moved to our homes, we cannot see our friends and loved ones, kept from doing any of the things that are part of normal daily routines, and so on. What is even worse, we don't have definitive answers from experts, or our governments for that matter, on when it will be over. At the same time, a lot of often contradictory information is reaching us through social media, various newspapers, and other types of media.

It would be surprising if this kind of situation didn’t cause stress or related issues such as anxiety and depression.  Conventional medications, more often than not, contain substances that are at least addictive if not harmful in other ways. This is the reason many people are turning to different forms of alternative medicine to help them cope with these problems. There are plenty of options out there, but CBD oil is beginning to stand out as exceptionally efficient when it comes to alleviating symptoms of anxiety and depression.

What is CBD Oil?

Undoubtedly, CBD  is rapidly gaining popularity as more and more people understand various benefits. But what is CBD oil? Indeed, we all know about the plant called Cannabis Sativa, or it's one strain in particular – marijuana. Cannabidiol or CBD is a compound found in Cannabis Sativa plants, including the most famous and widely used marijuana. However, marijuana use for medical or recreational purposes is still quite controversial because it also contains Tetrahydrocannabinol, aka THC, which is known for its psychoactive features.

Nevertheless, there is another less popular strain of Cannabis Sativa — hemp. This strain has high levels of CBD, but unlike marijuana, it does not contain significant levels of THC. As there is no risk of getting high after the use of CBD from hemp, its growth and production became legal in 2018. Most CBD products, including CBD oil for anxiety and depression, come from this strain. There are, however, products coming from marijuana in those states that legalized the use of it for recreational and medicinal purposes.

We are now going to explain how does CBD oil work and what its advantages are. In case you become interested and would like further understanding or to try CBD products, you can check out CBD Centrals.

How Does CBD Oil for Anxiety and Depression Work?

Since it recently became legal, research on CBD is still new. However, there is mounting evidence that it has a lot of benefits when it comes to alleviating the symptoms of different conditions – chronic and acute pain, skin problems, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and so on. Besides physiological, various CBD oil facts suggest that it helps in treating anxiety, depression, and stress.

You may wonder how is that possible? Well, mainly because, like all vertebrates, humans have an endocannabinoid system that is responsible for regulating different physiological and cognitive processes. According to researchers from the University of Pittsburg Medical Center, it is done by producing endocannabinoids daily that bind to various receptors in our body. However, sometimes this system needs a bit of help, and that is when taking CBD oil plays an important role. Additionally, studies indicate that when you take CBD from an external source, you prolong the calming effects.

CBD Oil for Anxiety

The thing is that CBD oil for anxiety and depression contains cannabinoids that get attached to particular receptors in the brain. Indeed, THC is the most known, but cannabidiol has the same beneficial effect as THC and doesn't make us high.

Now, it is essential to know the majority of studies tested the effects of medical marijuana, not CBD oil. However, when you are looking for something to help you cope with anxiety, you should look at the studies that included cannabidiol only.

The study published here tested how CBD behaves in addressing various issues besides just anxiety and depression-like insomnia, schizophrenia, ASD, ADHD, etc. The result showed that if you want to use CBD oil for sleep, it is maybe not the most efficient solution, whereas it is quite useful for anxiety and depression, as well as schizophrenia, issues that follow ASD and ADHD.

Another study, published in the Neuropsychopharmacology journal included 24 people. They were receiving either 60mg of CBD or placebo an hour and a half before the simulation of public speech. The other 12 with social anxiety didn’t receive any CBD products. The results showed that those who did receive the treatment exhibited significantly reduced signs of anxiety disorder or other cognitive issues. CBD Oil for Depression

As far as depression goes, studies relate the effects of high strength to the release of serotonin. CBD itself doesn't promote the release of serotonin, but in the same way as certain antidepressants, it activates a serotonin antagonist 5 HT 1 A that controls other neurotransmitters. CBD, similar to an antidepressant called buspirone, increases the creation of new neurons in the hippocampus. These tests are mainly done on animals, but they imply that CBD impacts the way the brain responds to serotonin that is already present. One study from 2018 also showed CBD can positively affect stress levels and consequently alleviate symptoms of stress-related depression.

CBD Oil for Stress

The same way it impacts depression and anxiety, CBD works in treating different forms of stress, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The studies conducted in 2015 and 2016 clearly show that CBD oil for anxiety and depression reduces stress and anxiety. The same studies indicated it helps in treating insomnia.

What to Consider Before Buying CBD Oil for Anxiety

There are several things that you need to consider before buying CBD oil  for anxiety and depression:

●       Origin of the plant. Soil cannabis is essential for the quality of the oil. If the ground where the hemp is grown is healthy, there is a lower risk of damages caused by pollutants and chemicals.

●       Way of extraction. Of course, the extraction isn't always the same. The best CBD oils are extracted through supercritical CO2 extraction.

●       Laboratory accreditations. Look for CBD oil for anxiety and depression that is lab accredited, mainly because there isn't any FDA regulation.

●       Check for a reputable manufacturer. There are now so many manufacturers of CBD oil since it became legal, that you have to research to make sure that your health and wellness is their priority.

Proper CBD Dosing for Anxiety

There is no rule of thumb when it comes to the appropriate dosing of CBD oil for anxiety and depression, so start modestly before increasing dosage. It depends on several factors such as body type,  tolerance, and also the severity of the problem. Additionally, it depends on the product itself and how it interacts with your body.

Can CBD be Purchased Legally Online?

It depends on the source of the CBD oil. If it is derived from marijuana, you can buy it only in the states where recreational and medicinal marijuana is legal. However, if it comes from hemp, you can buy it as it became legal in 2018. Companies that comply with 2018 law can ship CBD oils to all states.

Mental health issues are affecting large numbers of people globally. Although we initially look for alleviation in conventional therapeutics, the results are rarely satisfying. That's why we then turn to alternative healing treatment, and there it turns out CBD oil for anxiety and depression can be a useful remedy. The only important thing is that we have to learn how to take CBD oil properly.
